Flinn Scientific has adopted the philosophy that "Chemicals in any form can be safely stored and handled if the physical, chemical, and hazardous properties are fully understood and the necessary precautions, including the use of proper safeguards and personal protective equipment, are observed."

Precious metals:

Due to the significant increase in prices of precious metals, you will notice that several related chemical prices in the 2012 Flinn Chemical Catalog Reference Manual have also gone up in price. One popular example is Silver Nitrate.

Iodine:

Due to a worldwide shortage of iodine, the cost of iodine-containing chemicals, including the iodide salts, has increased dramatically over the past year. The production and availability of iodine was impacted by the tsunami in Japan, as Japan, along with Chile, is a main producer of iodine. Production in Chile is down as well.

Flinn Scientific has done and will continue to do everything we can to keep the costs affordable for our customers in order to mitigate the potential effect on teachers' favorite lab activities and on chemistry education in general.
