In spring of 2002, a high school science teacher accidentally
dropped a 2.5–liter bottle of hydrochloric acid in her
lab while students were doing a lab activity. Because of the
safety training she received from the Flinn Science Department
Meeting Safety Notes she was able to quickly contain and neutralize
the spill. In her letter to Larry Flinn she wrote, "Flinn
has always been a trusted friend to the high school chemistry
teacher. Your safety notes on spill control were an absolute
lifesaver to my students and me! The accident could have been
very serious. I'm so grateful no one was hurt! I will always
