Chemistry of Soil and Fertilizer Learning Activity Package

Have you ever grown your own vegetables or houseplants? Students will learn how plants grow by getting the proper nutrients from the soil. They will also study the functions of the “critical” inorganic nutrient elements, learn how compost is prepared, and learn how to choose the right inorganic fertilizer. By experiment, students will prepare a liquid fertilizer and measure soil pH. A 39-page teacher's guide (with answers) and a reproducible 24-page student lab manual are provided. Requires about two to three class periods to complete.
