Get in gear! This kit provides enough materials for students to build one of seven simple gear models. Students will investigate and experiment with these real-world gear machines, and actively gain an understanding of the properties and functions of gears. Study three types of gear configurations-the spur gear, chain and sprocket gear, and crown gear. As students examine the different gear systems, they will learn the applications of gearing up or gearing down, gear ratios, and the mechanical advantages of gears.
Each kit includes enough materials for one group of two to three students. Complete building instructions are included. 198 pieces packaged in a durable plastic storage tub. Includes a 40-page comprehensive Teacher's Guide on CD.
