Product Details

Students will compare hydroponically grown plants with plants grown in soil. They will be amazed as they watch plants grow without soil! In their experimentation they will also study the effects of missing macro- and micro-nutrients. Premixed nutrient solutions, seeds and growth chamber materials make your preparation time minimal. Complete set of materials provided for 15 laboratory groups. Comes with detailed instructions, hydroponics background and anticipated results.

Performance Expectations

MS-LS1-5. Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence for how environmental and genetic factors influence the growth of organisms.
MS-LS2-1. Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for the effects of resource availability on organisms and populations of organisms in an ecosystem.
MS-LS2-4. Construct an argument supported by empirical evidence that changes to physical or biological components of an ecosystem affect populations.
HS-LS1-5. Use a model to illustrate how photosynthesis transforms light energy into stored chemical energy.
HS-LS2-5. Develop a model to illustrate the role of photosynthesis and cellular respiration in the cycling of carbon among the biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere.
HS-LS1-6. Construct and revise an explanation based on evidence for how carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen from sugar molecules may combine with other elements to form amino acids and/or other large carbon-based molecules.
