Paternity testing—real "buzz" words in the world today. Now students will perform a paternity test using enzyme-restricted DNA to determine the descendent of one of the greatest thinkers of the Renaissance. The DNA is ready to load into student-prepared electrophoresis gels. After electrophoresis, students will clearly see the resulting DNA bands and be able to easily identify each band to solve the mystery. Students learn about restriction enzymes, DNA inheritance, and important electrophoresis techniques with this engaged lab experience. This kit contains comprehensive background information about paternity testing and DNA analysis plus step-by-step procedures, questions and Teacher Notes. DNA source is Lambda phage.
Complete with enough materials to run six gels. Requires electrophoresis apparatus and power supply.
The DNA contained in this kit must be kept frozen prior to use. Orders will only be shipped between September 15 and May 15 unless we are told otherwise. Upon receipt, this kit should be stored in the freezer until just before it is to be used.
