Try this amazing demonstration! Construct a model volcano using polyurethane foam and then produce a fiery lava flow using the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide and light stick chemicals. An awesome display of chemical reactions simulating a volcanic eruption! Students will be captivated and learn more about the concepts of chemiluminescence, decomposition reactions, polymers and catalysts. Teacher Demonstration Notes included.

Concepts: Chemiluminescence, oxidation–reduction.
Time Required: 25 minutes
Chemicals Provided: Hydrogen peroxide solution, food coloring, polyurethane foam, yeast, light stick chemicals.
Note: A large fiberglass demonstration tray (AP5429) is recommended.
