It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and our world is no exception. Flinn’s Biomimicry Kit explores how form and function of many human products are modeled from attributes observed in the natural world. First, students investigate one example of biomimicry—insulation that is based on how some animals stay warm in a cold environment. Then students make observations of their own, finding either current examples or new possibilities of biomimicry in the natural kingdom. Finally, students use these concepts to create a practical application of the natural phenomenon they observed!
