Students carry out an investigation to determine the effect of road deicers on the germination and growth of lettuce seeds. Specifically, they will prepare solutions using different salts used in road deicer formulations, and will evaluate whether these salts have any effect on the sprouting and growth of lettuce seeds. Based on their results, they will argue whether any of these salts is a green choice for use as a deicer.
