Smaller amounts provide faster results so several trials can be completed in a single class period. A specially formulated coating permeates the pores of the foam to prevent water absorption and maximize heat efficiency. The calorimeter constant and the calorimeter’s mass will remain the same for the entire experiment! An Introduction to Small-Scale Thermochemistry lab manual (AP5912) provides excellent hands-on experiments that utilize the full potential of these calorimeters.
