Pipetting Practice—Super Value Laboratory Kit
Students often have a very difficult time loading samples into agarose gel wells. In this kit, the wells are constructed of a unique gel material that is not easily destroyed by micropipet tips. The tough polymer mate- rial can also be rinsed and reused many times. The well holes are slightly oversized so students will be successful with their first pipet transferring experience. Kit includes 10 practice gel stations and practice loading dye. Micropipets sold separately.

DNA Fingerprinting— Electrophoresis at Work—Super Value Kit
After students read one of two case reports, they are provided with photo-reproductions of actual electrophoresis gels. Students then interpret the evidence against a list
of possible suspects and attempt to solve the mystery. The design of the activity affords the teacher the flexibility to alter case outcomes from class to class and even manipulate evidence. All materials are reusable!

Who ̓s the Daddy? DNA Profiling— Super Value Kit
Discover the power of DNA profiling (finger- printing) using this creative simulation.
No expensive equipment or chemicals needed! After assembling double-stranded DNA “molecules,” students cut them into fragments to simulate restriction enzyme digestion and then separate the fragments by size in a simulated gel. Next, the DNA fragments are “denatured” (cut into single strands), “blotted” (pattern copied onto a sheet of paper) and treated with simulated radioactive probes that combine with only specific base sequences. The resulting simu- lated autoradiograph identifies target DNA fragments, which are used to match the unidentified parent.

A Process to Dye for: Gel Electrophoresis—Student Laboratory Kit
Students learn how biological molecules are separated during electrophoresis by comparing the charge, size and molecular formulas of five dyes. Students observe the direction and measure the rate of migration of the dyes and then use the results to iden- tify an unknown mixture of dyes. The use
of dyes eliminates the need for staining the samples, which means the entire process can be completed in one class period. Complete for 8 student groups. A Super Value Kit is also available for 40 student groups. Electrophoresis chambers and power supplies are required.
