Bromine—Quietly Destructive
Bromine attacks metals. Bromine vapor leaves a container and slowly but surely destroys all nearby metal surfaces. Our heat- sealed, single-use ampule solves this bromine vapor problem. If you already have bromine in a capped bottle and want to mini- mize further damage, place the bottle in a plastic bag and seal it with a twist tie. Then place the bagged bromine bottle inside a paint can containing cat litter (see Flinn Chem-Saf TM Bags and Saf-StorTM Cans on page 122). Replace the metal can about every 18–24 months.
