Technical Note: This substance has been suggested for use in insect morgues in lieu of other, more hazardous substances.
Ethyl Alcohol
absolute
not denatured
This is the alcohol that humans can consume. A federal and local license is required to sell such consumable alcohol. We do not have such a license and do not want to get one. If you need alcohol that contains no denaturant, go to your local liquor store and buy grain alcohol. It may be sold under another name, but what you are seek- ing is 100% pure grain alcohol. Store in a poison cabinet.

Organic Solvents for GC Analysis Kit
Nine solvents—two alcohols, three esters, and four ketones—25 mL each, to do all of the experiments in the Vernier Mini GC lab manual! Solvents within each functional group class differ in the number of carbon atoms (CH2 groups), giving rise to a progressive trend in boiling point and excellent separation by gas chromatography. Convenient set of solvents may also be used for boiling point or fractional distillation labs, qualitative analysis of organic functional groups, and identification of unknowns. Solvents include: methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, 2-pentanone ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, and butyl acetate. Requires a fume hood or well- ventilated area.

 Ethyl Ether
It’s the end of the academic year—have you checked the expira- tion date of your ethyl ether? We strongly recommend that ethyl ether not be stored for periods longer than 3 to 6 months. With age, ethyl ether may form explosive peroxides. If your ethyl ether is nearing its expiration date, dispose of it before leaving for the summer. Check your current Flinn Scientific Catalog/ Reference Manual for the proper disposal method.
