pH Meter Accessories
Buffer Set for pH Meter Calibration
Preweighed amounts of buffer powders at three pH values—pH 4.0, 7.0 and 10.0. A correctly calibrated pH meter will check at all three points. These buffer powders are stable and have an excellent shelf life. Dissolve the powder in distilled or deionized water and use. The buffer preservative provided acts as a mold inhibitor and also colors each solu tion as follows: pH 4.0—redorange; pH 7.0—green; pH 10.0—blue.
Each capsule makes 100 mL of solution. Each vial contains ten capsules or enough to make, in total, one liter of buffer solution for each of three pH ranges.
Electrode Rack
An acrylic, eightplace rack for storing your elec
trodes inside test tubes which contain buffer solutions
or other storage solutions. Storing your electrodes in a storage solution will prepare them for immediate use or stabilize them if they are used infrequently. 9" long x 3" deep x 31⁄4" high.
Electrode Swing Arm
Prevents electrode breakage by aiding in raising and lowering of elec trodes into samples. Easily adjusted to suit your needs. Very stable. Truly a necessity.

Properly Store and Maintain pH Electrodes
• Most slow, unresponsive pH meters can be rejuvenated by simply soaking the electrode bulb in a saturated solution of KCl for 30 minutes.
• Gelfilled combination electrodes should be stored in a pH 4 buffer solution with a few drops of saturated potassium chloride. This slightly acidic solu tion allows the electrode to respond faster. Do not use distilled or deionized water; the low ionic strength extracts ions from the electrode bulb, causing a slower response. Tap water may be used for short term storage.
• Use and store electrodes in a vertical position.
• Between samples, rinse electrodes with distilled or deionized water.
• Never wipe the end of an electrode. Dry it by blotting with a lintfree paper like Kimwipes®.
• To prevent breakage during use, always use an electrode swing arm or holder to assist in raising and lowering the electrode into solutions.
• An electrode rack will help prevent electrode breakage during storage. See free video at flinnsci.com.
