Magnetic Karyotypes—Demonstration Kit
Teach students to identify and classify chromosome smears according to the Denver System using large magnetic demonstration models of chromosomes! Begin by building a karyotype of a normal male and a normal female on your magnetic classroom board. Investigate the karyo- types corresponding to eight different chromosomal abnormalities. These conditions include Down’s Syndrome (Trisomy 21), Edward’s Syndrome (Trisomy 18), Patau Syndrome (Trisomy 13), Klinefelter’s Syndrome, Disomy Y, Triple X (Trisomy X), Turner Syndrome (Monosomy X), and Robertson Translocation. Kit contains one 12" x 36" magnet with copies of all chromosomes necessary to perform this demonstration.

DNA Model Kit
How do chromosomes duplicate when cells divide? What directs protein formation? Your students will develop hands-on familiarity with the structure and function of the DNA molecule as they construct and interpret models of DNA segments. Reproducible worksheets also guide the students through a study of messenger RNA (mRNA) and transfer RNA (tRNA), and the process of protein synthesis. Materials provided for twelve-student teams.

RNA Transcription/Translation Set
Let students gain hands-on knowledge of transcription and translation without having to use flimsy paper cutouts! Outstanding protein synthesis model contains 30 durable, 3-D pieces repre- senting the components of a 12-base mRNA sequence as well as two tRNA molecules and two amino acids. The mRNA sequence is first assembled (transcribed) using the DNA nitrogen base sequence of an existing DNA model. The completed mRNA is then combined with the tRNA and amino acid model pieces to demonstrate the process of translation.
