How to Find Those Elusive Organisms
Some live cultures are not immediately visible upon first glance at the shipping container. Organisms do not evenly distribute themselves throughout
the culture medium. So a random sample from the container may turn up nothing but water! Some cultures tend to attach themselves to the bottom or sides of the jar. Amoeba will typically attach to the bottom of the jar. Stentor, Vorticella and Hydra attach to the sides and bottoms of the jars and on substrate. Place the culture container on a dimly
lit stereoscope or under a strong magnifier for a closer look. They may be hard to see, but they are almost certainly there.
