      Broken Bones—Flinn STEM Design ChallengeTM
Introduce your students to the fast-paced, growing field of biomedical engineering.
In this activity, students observe X-rays of femoral fractures in order to determine what type of break has occurred. Using biomed- ical engineering tactics, students design and construct a medical device to repair the break and then perform “surgery” to repair a broken femur model with their device. This is an activity your students are sure to remember!

X-Rays, Broken Bones
Get the conversation started right away when you pass these around the room! Real X-rays of broken bones depict some of the most common breaks. Use with a projector for the whole class to see or hang on a window for an all-year display. Introduce the skeletal system and break down the details in a fun and interesting way! Includes 15 X-rays.

Levers of the Body— Demonstration Kit
The human body is made
up of levers (bones) acted
on by applied forces
(muscles) to move body
parts. First, teach the
principles of various lever
types using a meter stick
lever and then dramati-
cally demonstrate using the arm-tube lever. The strongest person in your class will be humbled when a little leverage is applied to the arm tube.

  Skeleton, Half-Size, Economy Choice
Compact and extremely affordable. Features durable and unbreakable bones. Hands and feet are fused, but all major joints permit natural, free range of move- ment. Skull features a spring-loaded mandible and a sectioned calvarium. 32" tall and includes a metal rod support with tripod base. Furnished with key card.

Fixed Bones X-Rays
Authentic X-ray images printed on dura- ble transparent plastic show the hardware (plates, screws, nails, pins and wires) used to fix a broken bone. Fourteen additional images of the fractures correspond to X-rays of the repairs. Use with a light source to view details like a doctor would! Great for young learners as well as secondary education science. Includes instructor’s guide, 14 X-rays and 14 fracture images on cardstock up to 71⁄2" x 11".
