ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
Photon Solar Racer
The Photon Solar Racer can be built in one class period and raced in another. All that is required for assembly are scissors and a small screwdriver. The model will achieve very fast speeds in bright sunlight. Students will be amazed at the sensitivity of the car speed with slight variations in the amount of sunlight. After building the initial model, the key solar/ mechanical components can be used to power other cars of student design. Includes materials to build one Photon Solar Racer.

Solar Bag
The world’s largest solar bag—you’ve never seen a solar bag like this one! Our 50-foot- long, 3-foot-diameter black plastic solar bag holds over 350 cubic feet of air. Simply fill with air, tie off the ends and let the solar energy of the Sun heat the air inside the bag. In less than 10 minutes, the bag will rise into the sky.
14-in-1 Solar Robot
Build a robot that is powered by the Sun! Learn how solar energy can turn a small motor. When that motor is connected to other materials, the possibilities are endless. Instructions are included to build 14 differ- ent robots. Construct a turtle, crab, boat, beetle and even a zombie! Enough mate- rials included to build one robot at a time. Includes an 82-page assembly manual with helpful diagrams.

Build a Water Wheel—
Flinn STEM Design ChallengeTM
In the first part of this activity, students build an eight-bucket water wheel from provided materials. Then each group tests its wheel, collecting data and making obser- vations. Next, students brainstorm and make improvements to their designs. The improved water wheels are given a final test to determine maximum power generated. A unique testing-station setup eliminates the need for hot glue and allows for easy modi- fication of the water wheels. Complete for 30 students working in groups of three and two testing stations.
Renewable Energy Set
Explore wind, solar and water energy—all in one convenient set! Three interchangeable power units can be mounted to a sturdy plastic base. One converts sunlight to energy while the other two use wind and water to create energy. Four different monitors can also be connected to the base. These moni- tors make a sound, flash a light, turn gears
or measure voltage so students can observe and measure the energy produced. Base is 7" x 10" with a maximum height of 20".

Solar-Powered Cars—
Flinn STEM Design ChallengeTM
Students build their very own model cars that run on energy from the Sun! Based on data collected and observations of their own prototype, students create an optimal design solution for the fastest car. This activ- ity increases the level of student enthusiasm and ownership of the results as they apply their knowledge and reasoning skills while actively engaging in the engineering design process! Complete for eight student groups.
