Product Details

Squalus sp. An important specimen in the study of comparative anatomy. The dogfish is representative of the class Chondrichthyes—the cartilaginous fish. Key features beautifully demonstrated by these relatively large animals include the lack of a bony skeleton and having a two-chambered heart and spiral valve—an intestinal feature that greatly increases the absorptive surface and efficiency of the digestive system. These specimens are embalmed under controlled pressure through the caudal artery. Measurements from snout to tip of tail.

Injection Notes: Double-injected Squalus have red latex injected into the arterial system and yellow latex injected into the hepatic system. Triple-injected Squalus are prepared as doubles with the addition of blue latex in the systemic veins.
