College Level Classic General Chemistry Experiment A microscale series of half-cells is constructed by placing a piece of metal into a solution of the metal's ions. The half-cells are connected by a salt bridge and the reduction potential of each cell is measured. Students then construct a table of reduction potentials and apply the Nernst equation through further experimentation. Students learn how to use a voltmeter, determine the anode and cathode of a cell, and calculate net ionic equations. Complete for 24 students working in pairs.
