In this two part lab experience, students first build a generator to power an LED. In part II students derive mathematical equations to describe the flow of energy within the system.
Safety:The materials in this lab are considered non hazardous. Care should be taken when wrapping and unwrapping the wire. The pointed ends of the wire are dangerous to eyes. Neodymium magnets are very strong and will accelerate towards each other and other metal objects very quickly. Care should be taken to avoid unexpected and significant pinches of skin. Students should wear safety glasses and follow all normal laboratory safety guidelines.
