Product Details

Friction’s such a drag—but why? Students perform hands-on laboratory experiments that lead them to generalizations about how the surface area, weight and texture of objects affect friction. Kit comes complete with two wood blocks with eyebolts, sandpaper strip, mirror with sandpaper backing and laboratory instructions.

Kit available individually or as a classroom set of six. Requires a pull type spring scale or other force sensor.

Performance Expectations

MS-PS2-2. Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object
MS-PS2-1. Apply Newton’s Third Law to design a solution to a problem involving the motion of two colliding objects.
