Product Details

Gloeocapsa. Freshwater. Occurring as one to several ovoid cells surrounded by a thick gelatinous sheath. Cyanobacteria also known as the blue-green algae, are photosynthetic prokaryotic organisms utilizing chlorophyll a. Unlike other photosynthetic bacteria, the cyanobacteria evolve oxygen and may have been responsible for the early accumulation of oxygen in Earth's atmosphere. Species may be characterized by the formation of akinetes—thick-walled non-motile spores, and heterocysts—thick-walled translucent cells capable of fixing nitrogen.
