Product Details
Spectrum tubes are sealed glass tubes filled with a specific gas, typically an element or simple molecule, and fitted with metal electrodes at each end. When a spectrum tube is placed into a compatible spectrum tube power supply and energized, an electrical discharge excites electrons within the gas. As the electrons return to lower energy states, they emit light at characteristic wavelengths unique to each gas. When viewed through a spectroscope or spectrometer, these emissions appear as distinct spectral lines that allow students to identify elements and study atomic structure. Spectrum tubes are designed for instructional use and should be operated intermittently rather than as continuous light sources. Some tubes, such as iodine vapor tubes, may contain visible solid material inside the tube, which is normal and does not affect performance.
Specifications
Gas discharge spectrum tube filled with hydrogen, sealed glass construction with internal electrodes, produces pinkish-purple to magenta emission spectrum, designed for instructional laboratory use, pin-style connector, short duty cycle with intermittent operation recommended, tube length approximately 10 inches, operates with 110–120 VAC spectrum tube power supplies, for use with Spectrum Tube Power System AP1327.
