Product Details

Redox reactions are important not just in chemistry but also in biology and human nutrition. Help your students build vital connections between the sciences with this laboratory kit exploring the reactions of iron(II) and iron(III) compounds with oxidizing and reducing agents, respectively. Dietary iron, for example, is more easily absorbed in the form of iron(II) compounds, but it is stored in the form of iron(III) compounds. Students carry out a series of possible oxidation and reduction reactions to interconvert iron(II) and iron(III) compounds. The colorful reactions provide great practice for students to identify changes in oxidation states, write oxidation and reduction half-reactions and balance redox equations. Includes reproducible student handouts, detailed background information, complete Teacher Notes with sample data and answers to all questions and all necessary chemicals and supplies.

Complete for 30 students working in pairs. Fifteen reusable 24-well reaction plates are recommended and available separately.
