Product Details

Break out your inner Picasso! In this “Marbling Paper” lab activity, students will apply the concepts of intermolecular forces, surface tension, solubility, and viscosity to an age-old craft. Utilizing painters’ inks diluted with natural, nontoxic paint thinner, students transfer unique ink patterns from the surface of water to paper and explore how variables affect the results. Effective assessment questions allow students to probe more deeply the simple adage that oil and water do not mix. An excellent cross-curriculum activity that brings science and art concepts to life—show students that chemistry is a creative science! Complete for 8 groups of students.
