360Science™ blends the best of student-engaging digital content with easily adaptable hands-on labs to offer your students a uniquely comprehensive learning experience.
In this lab experience, six groups of students use a separation technique known as gel electrophoresis to separate segments of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or proteins according to the size of the segment and the relative electric charge of that segment. Students measure each of four DNA fragment bands from a simulated crime scene sample and from three “suspects.” The students use the “police report” and the results from the electrophoresis to formulate an explanation of which suspect they believe is the criminal. Editable, differentiated instructions range from a time-sensitive prescriptive lab to full open inquiry, and robust online videos and content—including a virtual reality (VR) simulation—help students prepare for and better understand the labs they’re conducting.
