Product Details

Separate different colored dyes found in grape Kool-Aid® using chromatography methods that mimic popular methods used in research and industry. Students will be amazed as grape Kool-Aid goes through a column and comes out clear. The amazement will continue as varying concentrations of isopropyl alcohol are run through the column, resulting in first red, then a blue solution exiting the cartridge. A simple yet exciting demonstration displaying the concepts of column chromatography.

Concepts: Column chromatography, polar/non-polar interactions.
Time Required: 15 minutes
Materials Provided: Sep-Pak® C18 cartridge, grape Kool-Aid, isopropyl alcohol, syringe, 6-well microplate.
