General, Organic and Biological Chemistry Ponder the taste of your favorite fruit. That unique flavor is the result of the combined senses of taste and smell. In the case of fruits, the primary flavor and fragrance ingredients are organic compounds called esters. By combining different alcohols and carboxylic acids, students synthesize four distinct esters. Students will enjoy learning about chemical formulas and equations, functional groups, organic chemistry and equilibrium with this fragrant activity! Complete for 24 students working in pairs.
