Product Details

Model the difficult concepts of probability and electron structure by having students “roll the dice.” In this activity, the simple roll of the dice is used to simulate the results of complex wave mechanical calculations for the energy of the 1s electron. Students record the numbers generated by rolling a pair of dice 50 times and then analyze the statistics to create a model of the 1s orbital. Eliminate the “uncertainty principle” when it comes to understanding electron structure. Includes reproducible student handouts and worksheets, detailed background information and Teacher Notes with sample data and answers to questions.
