How do the length, thickness and temperature of a wire affect its electrical resistance? Students will observe the brightness of a lightbulb to determine how these wire variables affect the current in an electrical circuit. Then they will heat up a wire and see the effect that temperature plays on the resistance in a wire. Will the resistance increase, decrease or stay the same? This engaging experiment will help students learn about simple circuits, resistance, current and Ohm’s law. Includes detailed instructions, reproducible student handouts, and Teacher Notes. All materials are reusable except for the 28-gauge wire, which is consumed during the experiment, and is available as a refill. 1.5-V batteries, battery holder and Bunsen burners are required and available separately.
