Product Details

College Level Classic General Chemistry Experiment Students synthesize the coordination compound potassium trioxalatoferrate(III) trihydrate, K3[Fe(C2O4)3]•3H2O. Once produced, the product is identified by colorimetric methods and the percent yield of the product is determined. The absorbance of a solution of the product will be taken at three wavelengths. The ratios of these absorbances are used to identify the compound in solution as K3[Fe(C2O4)3]•3H2O. The lab provides the students with experience in both synthesis techniques and the process of spectrophotometry. Complete for 24 students working in pairs.
