Product Details

Mix water from a large beaker back and forth into five other beakers. Your students will observe a variety of color changes. Solutions looking like red wine, lemonade, grape juice and others are produced with the final solution being a distinct yellow. Teacher Demonstration Notes included.

Concepts: Complex ions, formation of precipitates.
Time Required: 20 minutes

Ammonium thiocyanate solution, 3 M, 10 mL
Iron(III) chloride solution, 2 M, 10 mL
Oxalic acid solution, saturated, 70 mL
Tannic acid solution, 10 mL
