The Vernier Go Direct® Fluorescence/UV-Vis Spectrophotometer is designed for upper-level chemistry and life science laboratories that require both fluorescence and absorbance analysis. This dual-function instrument allows students to perform fluorescence measurements and UV-Vis absorbance experiments back-to-back without changing equipment, supporting studies such as Beer’s Law, reaction kinetics, quantum yield, quenching, and fluorescence detection. The spectrophotometer measures across a wavelength range of 220–850 nm and includes exchangeable excitation LEDs at 375 nm, 450 nm, and 525 nm for fluorescence experiments, with additional wavelengths available separately. Students can analyze samples such as quinine sulfate, fluorescein, chlorophyll, GFP, DAPI, and tryptophan using standard 10 × 10 mm cuvettes. Data collection and analysis are performed using Vernier Spectral Analysis®, Logger Pro®, or LabQuest® software via Bluetooth® wireless technology or USB, allowing flexible use with computers, tablets, and LabQuest® devices. A deuterium lamp provides UV illumination while an incandescent source supports visible absorbance measurements, making this instrument well suited for comprehensive spectroscopy instruction.
