Product Details

A new twist on an old favorite! The catalyzed decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is a prolific oxygen generator. It’s even more wonderful when yeast is the catalyst and light stick chemicals are added, creating volumes and volumes of glowing foam. Use this demonstration to teach the concepts of chemiluminescence, decomposition reactions and catalysts. Whether you call it Elephant’s Toothpaste or Old Foamey, it’s back with glowing reviews!

Concepts: Chemiluminescence, decomposition reactions, catalysts.
Time Required: 15 minutes
Chemicals Provided: 30% hydrogen peroxide, yeast, dishwashing liquid, light sticks.
Note: A large demonstration tray is recommended. See AP5429 for a description of our fiberglass demonstration tray.
