360Science™: Chromatography of a Dye Mixture

The purpose of this laboratory is to investigate the factors that influence the separation of food dyes using paper chromatography. Students will explore the separation of a dye mixture using sodium chloride solutions of two different concentrations as the eluent. The results will shed light on the connection between structure and mobility of food dyes within the solvent (eluent) and the adsorbent phases (chromatography paper).
