In this lab experience, students explore the formation of soap bubbles of various sizes, seeking to develop an understanding of the relationship between intermolecular cohesive forces and the surface tension of a liquid.Editable, differentiated instructions range from a time-sensitive prescriptive lab to full open inquiry, and robust online videos and content help students prepare for and better understand the labs they’re conducting.

360Science™: Cohesive Forces and Surface Tension
Concepts: Cohesion, surface tension, intermolecular forces
Outcomes: Students make soap bubbles using a bubble wand and straws. They observe that a solution of soap, glycerin, and water can be used to produce lasting bubbles of various sizes, while pure water does not produce any bubbles. In addition, they recognize that the smaller the radius of a spherical bubble, the larger the difference between the pressure inside and outside of the bubble.
Our 1-year option provides access to all digital content for one year plus lab supplies for a single class of 30 students. Our 3-year option extends access to digital content to three years at a discount.
