In this lab experience, students will investigate electromagnetic induction. A coil of magnet wire is attached to a galvanometer and the deflection of the needle observed as neodymium magnets are moved in and out of the coil in varying orientations. They will then investigate how an increase in the number of coils affects current output.Editable, differentiated instructions range from a time-sensitive prescriptive lab to full open inquiry, and robust online videos and content help students prepare for and better understand the labs they’re conducting.

Concepts: Electromagnetic induction, magnetic flux, Lenz's law, Faraday's law
Outcomes: Students will observe that there is a larger deflection of the needle on the galvanometer when the magnet is moved quickly. Without magnet movement there is no needle deflection. They will also notice that as the number of coils increases a larger deflection of the galvanometer needle is observed.
Our 1-year option provides access to all digital content for one year plus lab supplies for a single class of 30 students. Our 3-year option extends access to digital content to three years at a discount.
