Stream Macroinvertebrate Sampling Simulation—
Super Value Kit
Students use a sample of illustrated macro- invertebrates to determine the Biotic Index and the water quality of a simulated natural water source. Students also use the illus- trated macroinvertebrates to learn how some populations are estimated in the wild using a common technique known as mark-and- recapture. Kit is complete for 10 student groups. All materials are reusable.
AP7401 I $41.40
Discover Life in the Soil—
Student Laboratory Kit
Students will be fascinated to find what is living in the upper layer of soil! Students collect a soil sample and extract organisms in a Berlese–Tullgren apparatus. After a few days, the extracted organisms are exam- ined under magnification. Once each group identifies the types of organisms in their sample, they compare the biodiversity and population density among other collected soil samples.
FB1991 I $31.75
Duckweed Population Study—
Student Laboratory Kit
Witness a population explosion right in the classroom as students nurture and experiment with living duckweed plants. Students design their own experiments to determine factors that can affect the rate of the population explosion. Duckweed cultures are available separately. FB1433 I Laboratory Kit I $14.60 LM1133 I Lemna, Duckweed, Live, 2 oz. I $12.20
Landfill Decomposition—
Student Laboratory Kit
Students will set up different types of simu- lated landfills and test the effectiveness of each landfill using various “trash” items. Students will gain in-depth knowledge about how landfills work, the difference between open-air landfills and sanitary landfills and what types of items will biodegrade in each type of landfill. Complete for 30 students working in pairs.
FB0425 I $70.90
Common Uses of Rocks and Minerals—Student Laboratory Kit
Many items we use every day are mined from the Earth, including limestone in building homes, feldspar in soaps and fluorite in toothpaste. Students will perform 10 hands-on activ- ities to determine the properties of various rocks and minerals and identify their common uses. An excellent introduction to the common uses and properties of rocks and minerals! Complete for 30 students working in pairs.
