Magnetic Laser Accelerator—
Conservation of Linear Momentum—Advanced Inquiry Laboratory Kit
An introductory activity familiarizes students with collisions as they roll steel balls into each other at various speeds on an alumi- num track. This activity will give students a qualitative understanding of how momen- tum is conserved. The guided-inquiry activity challenges students to design a procedure to explore momentum conserva- tion in a more quantitative manner. AP7729 | $122.85
Conservation of Elastic Potential—Advanced Inquiry Laboratory Kit
This lab begins with an activity in which students propel a spring-loaded cart up an inclined plane. Students will discover the effects (if any) of the inclined plane’s angle and cart’s mass on its travel distance up the inclined plane. The guided-inquiry activity challenges them to quantify the amount
of energy lost by the cart due to friction so they can propel the cart up the plane a specific distance.

Maxwell’s Wheel
Demonstrate the relationship between potential and kinetic energy, linear momen- tum, angular momentum, nearly elastic collisions, inertia and torque. When the wheel is dropped, gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy. The jerk when the wheel reaches the bottom reverses the linear momentum, causing the wheel to wind back up.

Demonstration Kit
This unique demonstration shows the fundamentals of the conservation of energy and momentum principles as well as the properties of magnetism. Use this accel- erator to launch a ball bearing to study projectile motion. Background information and complete instructions are provided.
