Physical attributes of organisms change
over time to ensure species survival. For example, what makes one beak better than another? In this activity, students use prede- termined beak designs and put into action a custom beak design to discover which beaks perform better with a variety of food sources and environmental conditions. Students then analyze the data to create a custom beak that will survive through several generations.
FB2130 I $81.75
Fun hands-on activity to explore natural selec- tion, gene pool, population size and predator/ prey relationships. Students play the role
of forceps birds, each with its favorite stick bug variation, that go on feeding frenzies. Once eaten, the stick bugs do not return to the population; only the survivors can repro- duce. What happens to the makeup of the population?
FB1607 I $76.50
This hands-on card activity investigates key genetics principles like genotypes and phenotypes, dominant and recessive traits and Punnett squares. Simulate and analyze multiple generations of monohybrid, dihy- brid, sex-linked and backcrossed genes. With the results of each cross displayed
on the colorful fruit fly genetics cards and genetic-cross sheets, students gain under- standing of Drosophila’s genetic makeup.

Allele’s Crossing Over to the
Other Side—Super Value Kit
Teach meiosis terminology with this simple hands-on simulation kit. Students string alleles (pony beads) onto chromosomes (chenille wires) and mark the beads to create a unique gene sequence. Then students crossover sections of the chromosome to complete the phases of meiosis. The student handout includes detailed information about meiosis with simple step-by-step instructions.

Why Do People Look Different? Student Laboratory Kit
Students determine what members of a family look like by running simulated DNA samples in agarose gel to separate them through electrophoresis into colorful bands that immediately appear in the gel. Includes agarose, buffer needle-tip pipets, five simulated DNA samples, complete instructions and reproducible student worksheets. Complete for 6 student groups. Super Value Kit is complete for 30 student groups. Requires electrophoresis apparatus and power supply.
