understand to successfully argue for science safety.
• The circumstances surrounding teacher liability in the science labora-
tory. Why do accidents happen and where do they occur?
• Practical solutions to everyday safety problems. An examination of how existing case law applies to different “safety situations.” Instructors are encouraged to use these examples to support their
argument to improve science safety.
• A review of 34 actual appellate court cases and how the law applies
to science education. The facts of each case are described, and the general principles are summarized in layman’s terms. Expert commentary from the author provides a deeper understanding of the concepts discussed in each case. Use these cases to educate adminis- trators about their duty to provide safe buildings, equipment and other tools necessary to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
• A discussion on the types of defenses can be successfully used if sued.
