HAZARD ALERT: Skin and eye irritant; toxic by ingestion. LD50 300 mg/kg.
Storage: Inorganic #2
Disposal: #26a
Shelf Life: Fair, slowly effloresces in the air.
Soluble: Water and methyl alcohol; slightly in ethyl alcohol and glycerol.
Color and Odor: Blue/white, odorless solid.
CAS No. 7758-99-8
Technical Note: Laboratory grade copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate powder contains up to 0.7% of an insoluble anticaking agent, magnesium carbonate. This additive is very effective in preventing clumping and hardening of the chemical and makes the powder free-flowing. If a transparent solution is needed, filter the mixture before use or add a small amount of 1 M hydrochloric acid.
 HAZARD ALERT: Slightly toxic by ingestion. Storage: Inorganic #2
Disposal: #26b
Shelf Life: Good
Color and Odor: Blue/green, odorless liquid.

 Disposal of Copper Salt Solutions
Many states regulate or limit the amount of copper(II) salts that may be disposed of down the drain with excess water. Always check with your local or state agencies before disposing of any substance down the drain. Copper(II) ions may be precipitated as insoluble copper phosphate for disposal method #26a, solid waste in a landfill. Please call or write Flinn Scientific to request a free copy of “Precipitation and Disposal of Copper(II) Solutions,” Publication No. 10870.
