Commercial culture media (such as those listed in this Catalog/ Reference Manual) or media that lab managers prepare them- selves are intended to enable the rapid and rich growth of microorganisms. If prepared culture dishes are not handled and stored in a fastidious manner, undesirable and even pathogenic culture growth is possible. Good housekeeping and proper disposal are a must for these materials. See the Flinn Biology Disposal article on pages 751–752 for more information.
