CP Lab Safety® Chromatography Funnels
CP Lab Safety’s plastic Chromatography Funnels are virtually unbreak able and made of chemically resistant high density polyethylene (HDPE). These uniquely designed funnels have perforated sides and a closed stem, which facilitates the gentle addition of solvent without disturbing the silica gel by allowing solvent to flow down the column wall, making these superior to ordinary funnels. Made with HDPE, these funnels are spark proof, rust proof, dent proof and boil proof. Specifications: 68 mm OD, 9 x 20 mm stem, 65 mm Height.

Use a Separatory Funnel to Separate Immiscible Liquids
1. Use a separatory funnel that will hold at least twice the total volume of solution to be extracted and the extraction solvent.
2. Support the funnel in a ring stand and pour the solution to be extracted into the funnel.
3. Next, pour the extraction solvent into the funnel.
4. Stopper the funnel and hold the stopper in place.
5. Invert and gently swirl the funnel. Do not shake the funnel or an undesirable emulsion may form.
6. While the funnel is inverted, open the stopcock to release the built up pressure.
7. Close the stopcock and repeat steps 5 and 6 several times.
8. Place the funnel back in the ring support and allow the two layers to separate.
9. Remove the stopper and open the stopcock to drain off the bottom layer.
Top should be open when draining
