Potting Soil
Organically rich, all-purpose potting soil blended to ensure excel- lent drainage and to promote deep root growth. A compost-based medium that will promote growth of beneficial microorganisms, and provide excellent nutrient and water holding capacity. This is an ideal medium for all types of house plants, cuttings, or bulbs. Eight-pound (3.6 kg) bag.
Planting Mix
Jiffy-Mix® soilless planting medium is unsurpassed for seed starting and for rooting cuttings. A natural peat/vermiculite mixture with added nutrients, it is lightweight, sterile, and ideal for all types of flowers and vegetables. Supplied in an ten-quart bag.
Crystal Soil® Synthetic Potting Medium
Crystal Soil® is a unique and fascinating growth medium for plants. Remarkable hydro-gel stores water and nutrients and releases them as required by the plant. Students will be able to observe plant roots as they develop and grow. Brightly colored Crystal Soil requires no fertil- izer and only needs to be watered once every 3–4 weeks! Five colors available. 2.5-ounce package is concentrated—when water is added, it expands to a full quart.
Peat Moss
The most widely used soil acidifier and modifier. Peat moss adds mois- ture retention capacity, buffering capacity, and organic matter to soilless mixes for starting seeds and rooting cuttings. It is also an essential ingredient in acid-bog soils for carnivorous plants, and other acid- and moisture-loving plants. Eight quart (4.4 L) bag.
Peat Pellets, Jiffy-7®
Disc-shaped pellets are made from compressed sphagnum peat moss surrounded by a plastic netting material. When water is added, pellets expand up to seven times their original size—forming pot and medium in one tidy package. Developing roots easily penetrate pot exterior so that young plants can be transferred directly into garden or larger container with minimal disturbance.
Sphagnum Moss
An excellent multi-purpose planting medium and soil supplement. Available as long fibers or milled. Long fiber sphagnum is used as a mulch, bulb starter, moisture retainer, and soil conditioner. Milled sphagnum is an ideal germination medium—actually helping to eliminate seedling “damp-off”. Either type will serve as a cultivation medium for carnivo- rous plants in terraria. Supplied in bags of approximately two gallons.
