Hot Air Balloon Laboratory Kit STEM

Fill the sky with colorful hot air balloons as you teach the properties of gas. Student groups construct and launch their own giant hot air balloon. Students will learn how hot air balloons lift, stay afloat and eventually descend. A unique balloon launcher apparatus is included for safe and successful launches. Also includes easy-to-follow instructions and all the materials needed to construct fifteen 3' x 2' hot air balloons. A heat gun or propane torch is required and sold separately. A tissue replace- ment pack is available for 15 additional hot air balloons.

Make Avogadro proud by using his law to determine the molar mass of any gas, from helium to sulfur hexaflouride. The gas syringe and sampling apparatus allows you to sample and weigh any pure gas in less than one minute. The molar mass of the gas can then be quickly calcu- lated using Avogadro’s law. This accurate demonstration reinforces for the students the link between measurement and theory. Demonstration Notes included.
Concepts: Avogadro’s law, molar mass, ideal gas law.
Time Required: 15 minutes
Materials Provided: Plastic syringe and two delivery assemblies. Note: A 1- or 10-mg balance of a 100-g capacity is required.
