Properties of Buffers—
Student Laboratory Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Buffers provide an essential acid–base balancing mechanism in consumer products, foods, even living cells! What are buffers made of? How does a buffer work? Can you design a buffer to be effective in a given pH range? Is there such a thing as an ideal buffer? Excite and challenge your students to answer these questions and more as they prepare a range of acetic acid/sodium acetate buffers in the lab and investigate their properties. The experiments in this kit provide a wonderful, culminating experience in acid–base chemistry that will take your students to a new level of understanding and awareness. Includes reproducible student handouts, detailed background information, Instructor’s Notes with sample data and answers to all questions and all necessary chemicals and consumable supplies.
Complete for 30 students working in pairs. Fifteen reusable 24-well reaction plates are recommended and available separately.

Mystery Solutions with Acids
and Bases—Guided-Inquiry Kit
By: The Flinn Staff
Solve the acid and base mystery. Through deductive reasoning and microscale titrations, students learn the identity and concentrations of the four acid and base solutions. This guided-inquiry experiment can be adapted for various levels of students and each unique set of unknowns will produce a personalized lab experience. Includes reproducible handouts, detailed background information, Instructor’s Notes with sample data and answers to questions, and all necessary chemicals and consumable supplies.
Complete for 30 students working in pairs.

   pH Indicator Chart
By: The Flinn Staff
Acid–base or pH indicators are some of the most
common chemicals you will use in the lab. This beautiful poster—of course, it’s also colorful—will help you select the best indicator for any pH range and also identify the color changes. The pH indicator chart displays the colors of ten common indicators over the entire pH range, from pH 1–14. Instructors and students will love this incredibly useful and pretty chart! Poster size 24" x 36", printed on heavy-duty laminated stock.
