Flinn Chemical Element Set
By: The Flinn Staff
The Periodic Table of the Elements comes alive with
the Flinn Chemical Element Set. Students will study the similarities and differences between 24 elements and compare the placement of these elements on the periodic table. You can finally show these similarities and differences instead of just talking about them.
Each element sample is packaged in a heavy-duty, plastic or glass vial measuring approximately 2" long x 1" in diameter. These durable vials allow for full viewing of each element. Four elements—arsenic, bromine, iodine, and selenium—are packaged in heat-sealed glass ampules to be viewed by students under supervision.
Both the container and the container closure are labeled with the name of the contents. The entire element set is packaged in a durable, molded plastic case with handle. The element-filled vials and ampules rest in foam rubber cushions for safer storage and transportation. Overall dimensions of case are 133⁄4" long x 10" wide x 33⁄4" deep. Complete set contains 24 element samples and weighs 23⁄4 lbs.

Flinn Hands-On Chemical Element Set
By: The Flinn Staff
This “hands-on” element set enables students to pick
up and safely investigate properties of elements. Teaching characteris- tics of metals, nonmetals, and relationships between periods and groups in the periodic table has never been so easy!
Complete set includes 14 samples of 11 different elements and activ- ity ideas. The elements provided are aluminum, carbon, copper, iron, magnesium, nickel, lead, sulfur, silicon, tin, and zinc. Three forms of copper (shot, strip, and wire) and two allotropic forms of carbon (graphite and charcoal) are included with the set to show students that elements may take on various appearances. Each element comes in a durable plastic zipper-lock bag labeled with the name, symbol, and group number of the contents. Oversized storage tray allows extra space for your own creative additions to the set!
Rediscovery of the Elements
An amazing resource about the elements! Disk operates through a computer in a Web page format that is a running text with more than 5000 photographs, allowing students to experience the actual redis- covery, just as the authors did, of the famous chemical sites. Includes accounts of each element through 118. Photographs of all elements through uranium (element 92) are provided, along with photos of the minerals and ores from which the elements were identified and the original sites where they were discovered. A treasure-trove of informa- tion, the slides also contain GPS locations of mines and laboratories where these amazing discoveries took place. A 100-plus page text on the disk summarizes the historical and biographical information for each element and the scientists involved in the discoveries. Join the authors on an epic, modern-day quest—traveling the world, research- ing, photographing, and documenting the people, places, and materials involved in the discovery of each element on the periodic table. Disk must be used with a computer.
