This kit contains everything you need to collect and monitor the pH of rainwater or potentially acidic freshwater sources. Each kit includes enough materials for an entire class—15 sample tubes with caps, 5 color comparison charts and enough test paper (pH 3.0–6.0) for over 75 determinations. Also included is a vial of Hydrion 0–12 pH test paper. All components are completely portable for use in the field.

FLINN SCIENTIFIC I ACID RAIN
ACID RAIN
     Acid Rain and Plants—
Acid Rain: The Invisible Threat—
Nitrogen Oxides and Acid Rain—
Student Laboratory Kit

Demonstration Kit
What is acid rain and how does it affect nature? In this experiment, rain solutions of varying pH will be placed on plant seedlings. The harmful effects of acid rain are dramatic! Students will gain in-depth knowledge of what acid rain is, how it forms and its devas- tating effects. Teacher Notes, reproducible student handouts and all necessary chemi- cals and specialized equipment are provided. AP6300 | $84.35
A dynamic learning experience incorpo- rating several hands-on activities. Students will measure the pH of water samples, investigate acid rain effects on plants and soils, create acid rain posters, chart the path of acid rain and estimate the contribution
of automobiles to the acid rain problem. Includes the DVD Acid Rain: The Invisible Threat. Materials supplied for at least 90 students to complete each activity. FB0410 | $205.95
When nitrogen and oxygen—the two primary components of the air we breathe—combine under certain conditions, the results can be devastating. In this demonstration, nitrogen oxides are generated and the resulting gases bubbled into water containing an indicator. As the water shifts from near neutral to highly acidic, the color change is dramatic. And just when the reaction appears to be complete... a breathtaking surprise! Accentuate your discussion of acid rain with this remarkable demonstration.

   Acid Rain Survey Kit
Perform a simulation of acid rain formation in a plastic bag. Chemicals react to form
a visible brown cloud of nitrogen dioxide which, in turn, acidifies water in the bag.
An acid–base indicator shows that the pH is altered. The results are unmistakable—and it all takes place within a bag on an overhead projector! Includes zipper-lock bag, 12-well reaction plate, copper wire, nitric acid solu- tion and universal indicator solution. Note: Perform this demonstration in a fume hood or well-ventilated lab.
